Russia at the Ottoman Palace

Diplomatic relations between Otoman Empire and Czardom Russia covering nearly five hundred years were prosecuted with mutual emissaries, the reports they sent to their countries and the observations they made have always been an important resource with documental properties.

Within the framework of continual diplomatic relations, the diplomatic presents which were sent to the Ottoman Sultans by the Czars have an other importance. These presents are also the objects that project the concept of the culture and art of their period. These objects (which the major part is) formed by these diplomatic presents and collected from the collections of Topkapı Palace Museum, Military Museum and  Dolmabahçe Palace are being exhibited with an exhibition called “The Russia in the Ottoman Palace” at the Privy Stables Section of the Topkapı Palace Museum.

Between the objects taking place in the exhibition there are orders, porcelain and silverware carrying the seal of Czardom, jewellery, the objects belong to the famous Fabergé company which labeled  the history of the world jewellery with the objects they produced from the 19th century to the begining of the 20th century, the paintings from the painters who were very important at the art environment of their period like Ayvazovsky and also martial and ecclesiastic objects.

In the exhibition called “Russia in the Otoman Palace” , Ottoman objects at  Russia and Russian objects at Otoman Palaces which some part of them have been presented to be visited at the exhibiton “Treasures of the Moscow Kremlin at the Topkapı Palace” are being together at the same place for the first time. These exhibitions which are indicators of the diplomatic and commercial relationships between two countries are also show the interaction of the culture and art.
